I am continually intrigued by the wonder material of clay. It exists in dualities of soft and hard, smooth and rough, resilient yet fragile. Exploring classical forms with modern surfaces is at the center of my work.
My most recent work has been focused on traditional western tooling and carving. I am not interested in making ground-breaking work that begs for attention. Instead, I am concerned with making a fine hand-crafted object that has spent hours of loving attention in my hands. Much of my work contains materials dug locally in the Loess Hills of Southwest Iowa where Louis and Clark held council with the natives. Theses pieces contain a permanent connection with legacy of out local history.
The pieces on display are make with high fired stoneware clay and glazed in non-toxic glazes. All pieces are functional and microwave safe. Though they are dishwasher safe, the love and attention that went into their creation begs for the care of hand washing.
