George W. Garrett III

George W. Garrett III is an African American painter and graphic art designer from the Midwest, born in Le Mars IA on October 13, 1969. George is a local artist from Omaha, NE. His work is currently displayed at the Old Market Artist Gallery. George is currently the President and has been a member since 2013. George works out of his studio at Hot Shops in downtown Omaha, NE.

George’s art pieces are painted and designed in vibrant colors. His subject matters are human-animal hybrid, animals and people in an urban setting. George uses mediums that range from acrylic, mix media and air brush on all types of paper, cardboard, scrap pieces of wood and tile. George upcycles these materials into beautiful artwork.

George graduated from Northwest High School and attended college on an art scholarship. But mostly self-taught himself to create his style of work.

George is inspired from many things and not limited to what inspire him. George’s artwork reflects an urban surrealism feel. The painters that inspire him are Kehinde Wiley and David Chloe. George believes that Mother Nature is the greatest artist and mankind looks to her for style and inspiration.

George is best known for the Great Plains Black History Museum logo in his hometown of Omaha NE. George has done book cover illustrations for several authors.

George is a big advocate of keeping art in schools and stressing the importance of creativity in youth from the infant stage of life to full adulthood. George believes art is important as music is to the world and the importance is often overlooked. George would like to see art celebrated on the same level of the Oscar Awards and the Grammy Awards.
